Lighting is not important
for the architecture itself,
but for the people
that live in it.

With a little help of fate and what’s written in the stars, I started to work with light in 1986 after I left my hometown Pula to study at FIT Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. In 1990 I established my own lighting design practice in NYC. During the same year, I became a professional member of the IES Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, New York section. Back then, I envisioned that my career will develop in between constant travel and the drawing desk. What I didn’t know is that I will be travelling in light and walking through shadows. What started as design work with tangible forms has, over the past thirty years, developed into building and creating with the intangible and the ephemeral.

From 1995 I live and work in Pula, a small northern Adriatic town in Croatia, from where I can connect with architects, designers and investors to create meaningful lighting experiences. My expertise is mostly architectural lighting designs for hospitality, commercial, landscape and master plan projects as well as lighting installations, art projects and product design. In 2006 I built my current office building that we call the House of Light.

Many of my projects won international awards: as a lighting designer, I was awarded IES, IALD, Architizer, Blueprint, LDA, Delta of Gold, Illumni Infinity, Codega; as a product designer Red Dot, LDA, Lux Award 2014, iF Award, ADI Index, ARC Show for Lun-up, Underscore and Trick luminaires; as an investor I was attributed the Dedalo Minosse Prize.

My professional memberships include IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers), IES Illuminating Engineering Society of North America IESNA, HDD (Croatian Designers Association) and HDR (Croatian Lighting Society) and I was also a member of PLDA (Professional Lighting Designers Association Europe).

To mark the twentieth anniversary of my working practice, I have published my first book, ‘My Light’, in 2010. Most recently, in 2013, I was the author of the lighting installation Hooked-Upduring the Milan Design Week. I hold regular lectures and attend conferences, and am an experienced PechaKucha and TED speaker.

My work is based on strong, passionate belief in light design and I feel very lucky to be able to engage in this practice with all of my heart and enthusiasm.

We refer to light as to an intangible but powerful building material. We create architectural lighting and product design to suit our projects. By understanding light as an infinite voyager, we have developed skills to capture its journey. Costumer support and communication through all the phases of design and realisation process are provided by our team of of lighting architects, designers, planners, engineers and visualisers, therefore the final result is a complete and unique solution with utmost attention to detail as well as context. Light has a strong impact on people and their surroundings, which is why we take its importance seriously in our design work. Our sustainable and adaptive lighting design strategy takes into account the people, the architecture, the implementation of light and shadows and other influential factors covered by our holistic approach to the performance resulting with a long term satisfaction and respect for all.
