The “Christmas Nativity scene in the Vatican 2022” came from the town of Sutrio and included 18 life-size statues appropriately illuminated for the ceremonial opening.

The wood sculptures were made by a team of artists from Friuli-Venezia Giulia, among them the artistic director Stefano Comellia and Oleksander Shteyninher, a Ukrainian artist living in Italy.

The collaboration on the staging of the birth of Jesus started from the recommendation of Italian colleagues who recognised that for the lighting of the staging of the birth of Jesus, it is necessary to have competence in creative solutions and experience with technologically demanding projects in order to highlight the beauty and warmth of natural materials with light.

Light is an integral part of the Christmas celebrations, so we were incredibly inspired to contribute to the overall Christmas atmosphere on St. Peter’s Square. The light scenography that narratively accompanies and complements this year’s artistic interpretation of the nativity scene will appear every night after dusk.
