Designer Dean Skira Brand Delta Light

Multifunctional Urban Device

The goal was to develop a new lighting concept designed specifically for urban settings: a pedestrian pathway, roadway, park, square, façade or landscape. The concept needed to provide maximum flexibility for the designer while maintaining the same aesthetic for the entire system, regardless of the area or equipment installed. Realized in 2017, Polesano is a striking combination of modularity and flexibility that allows the designer to meet any project's specific functional requirements while seamlessly integrating lighting, video surveillance, Wi-Fi, speakers or other Internet of Things elements by keeping the same aesthetics of the entire system. The Polesano system allows movement of the pole heads in all directions without visible joints. Polesano is characterized by a refined, minimalist design that doesn't overpower its environment. Focusing on modularity and flexibility allows Polesano to meet its multi-zone lighting requirements in a continuous and uniform design language. Thanks to different optics and sizes, Polesano enables precise lighting and a combination of lighter and darker zones for a compelling blend of landscape lighting design, safety and social interaction. Historically we had a pole holding a luminaire at a certain height to provide light according to its photometric characteristics across a given area. Usually, the pole and luminaire, surveillance systems, IoT elements, etc., were entirely different aesthetical elements, often coming from various suppliers. The pole was generally not considered a part of the design, adding no aesthetic value. That's where Polesano takes it to the next level.

Dean Skira's Thought

The main idea behind POLESANO was to create a "device" that combines all types of lighting into a single aesthetically unique structure, where the pole and the fitting become one body.
